ABOUT HAKSNA
One day, a skilled brewer named Mirek returned from city of Hradec to settle down here in Ostrava - a distinctive but beautiful city. He had a lot of experience behind him, but also ideas that he wanted to bring to life. And he met Dan here, who, after many years in the family brewery, longed to start his own brewery in Stara Bela and was looking for a talented brewer with whom he could share his enthusiasm and big dream. So the guys shook hands and stepped into it together... and HAKSNA was born.
Why such a cool Ostrava name? Because we Ostravans are not afraid of anything, right? We have our roots, families, and friends here. We are part of the great black pearl of Moravia, we have short beaks but also big hearts, and we certainly are not afraid of getting our hands dirty! There were many names suggested in the voting, but a beer called CYP or PYČO (vulgar Ostrava slang) could overshadow the delicious taste of hopped nectar. So out of the final names, we chose the word HAKSNA - a feminine noun that refers to a leg or limb that will simply kick you up and get you off your chair!
Gradually, the brewery expanded, and so Dan also invited assistant brewer Honza to join, easygoing Lucka takes care of wholesale, and sweetheart Míša is responsible for customer care and retail. We cannot forget our most versatile worker Johny and incredibly hard working Filip without whom no beer is delivered. Giving life to a brewery is not an easy task, but with a great team, it's simply a joy.
You might be wondering what makes HAKSNA exceptional. We simply indulge in these recipes! Sometimes we start by the book from the original recipes, but sometimes you simply have to start from scratch. We explore international beer styles, types of hops, bitterness, color, fruity flavors, herbs, and aromas. But one thing is clear - we want to focus on modern beer styles and bring our customers a regular dose of inspiring beers. That's what it's all about!
